One of the finest guitars we offer, and one of the rarest. This '64 "reverse" Firebird V is one of 510 made in the second, and final, year of production of the original configuration Firebird. It came out of the collection of on the best-known Firebird collectors - he felt it was his best playing Firebird. It's in great shape, and completely original with the exception of a hairline crack - not a break - on the back of the headstock, making it the perfect Nine Ball guitar.
If you've never played a vintage Firebird, you're missing out on the fun. They sit right between the normal Gibson sound and the sound of a Stratocaster, with a neck pickup tone to die for. Fret access up the neck is excellent. There's a rumor going around that Firebirds are unbalanced and neck-heavy, but I've never experienced it. Yes, they use banjo tuners, which are a little weird, but after five minutes, they seem normal.
The Firebird V was the equivalent of the Les Paul Standard, with trapezoid fingerboard inlays and a Tune-o-matic bridge, as opposed to the bar bridge and dot inlays on the Firebird III (click here to see the Firebird III we have). This Firebird V comes with its original rectangular hardshell case.
